The Accident Investigation Commission performs its functions in accordance with the provisions of the PNG Civil Aviation Act 2000 (as amended), the PNG Commissions of Inquiry Act 1951 and in accordance with Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
On 28 June 2019, the Minister for Civil Aviation delegated his obligation under Section 8(1)(b) of the Civil Aviation Act 2000 (as amended), regarding compliance with the provisions of Articles 26 and 37 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation and its Annexes. The Minister further directed that the PNG Accident Investigation Commission must fully comply with the Standards and Recommended Practices of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and as relevant to the role and functions of Annex 19 to the Convention.
