Description of the Position: As a key member of the Management team, the Legal Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will assume a strategic role in the overall management and advisory role of the PNGAIC legal matters and challenges.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Providing legal advice to the Board, CEO and the Management.
  • Researching and analysing statutes, decisions, legal articles, and providing professional written and oral legal advice to AIC Board, managers, and officers.
  • Drafting legislations, MOUs and other legal instruments.
  • Conduct projects that may result in the drafting of legal guidance, amendments to Acts and Rules/Regulations affecting the Commission, and conducting legal research on topics related to the AIC’s core business
  • Provide legal advice on the Annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and AIC compliance requirements.
  • Represent the AIC on all legal matters and appear for AIC in administrative tribunals, arbitration tribunals, court hearings and dispute settlements.
  • Provide legal advice in support of the AIC’s core business, transport accident and serious incident investigation.
  • Provide legal advice including on AIC Corporate, Financial, Human Resource Management, and Information Technology matters.
  • Other duties as directed in support of the CEO and Board.
